Marcelo Spreads Luta Livre Further!

During the previous weeks Marcelo has been sharing his love for Luta Livre with people from many different countries throughout europe, he has experienced so many different cultures and befriended some great people along his expedition, nothing of this magnitude has ever occured in the history of Luta Livre and i'm sure this will go down in history and those who tell the story of Luta Livre in the future will mention Marcelo Brigadeiro just like the tell stories of Euclydes Hatem or as most people associated with Luta Livre will know him as Tatu.

Marcelo Travelling through europe to countries such as Italy,Slovakia,Holland,Greece and many more. As Jesus once did spread the word of God okay without the miracles of course, but this is some feat Marcelo spreading his beliefs of Luta Livre to those who acknowledge it.

As he has being doing throughout the year in England teaching Luta Livre techniques to his Team. Team Kaobon improving there overall ground game, and other guys up and down the country. He followed this on in europe with submission defence, attacks, takedowns and the history of Luta Livre, Some countries being more clued up when it comes to the history and some being bewildered on what Luta Livre was until Marcelo arrived.

Now Marcelo will return home to his beloved Brazil and RFT gym after a long year of spreading the word of Luta Livre. Recovering for another year of growth of the sport which grew within him many years ago.

LUTA LIVRE UPDATE!

During the months of November/December a lot of MMA action has occured including some great luta livre from Kaobon fighters from the likes of Paul Sass against Mark Holst with another impressive triangle finish on his debut in the UFC. You could see the nerves as he pulled guard several times however, this was to work to his advantage due to Holst being a good striker. Sass finishing within the first round and with this a submission of the night bonus. Another fighter who has been improving in Luta Livre was Paul Kelly with a great stoppage due to ground and pound after he got a crucifix on the taller opponent T.J Obrien who has a really outstanding record especially from the mat submitting 15 of his 16 opponents who he has beaten 11 by triangle, a real accomplishment by Kelly showing how good he really is after his loss to Jacob Volkmann.

Team Kaobons Mark Scanlon made his UFC debut but it didn't go the way he wanted it to losing by decision however, he can take heart from his performance with some outstanding strikes landing perfect on the tough Germans chin not losing his cool despite Krauss still standing he managed to take Krauss down despite his great wrestling background. This fight would turn out to be fight of the night as both fighters put on a great show. Also Paul Taylor lost against Sam Stout a close fought fight either fighter could of walked away with the victory but it was Stout who took the big W and improved his record.

Another Two Kaobon fighters were in action on the OMMAC both showing there dominance in there divisions at Featherweight & Lightweight. Uche Ihiekwe improved his professional record to 3-0 with a finish to remember with some vicious g+p in the first against a good opponent who has a wrestling background taking his opponent down and exploding with vicious elbows from the top. Greg Severs another unbeaten professional from Team Kaobon defeated his opponent with some ground and pound late in the second round improving his record to 2-0.

King Of The Mat III (KOTM)

Today was the last tournament to be held at Kaobon this year already having done two KOTM events the third was sure to be even better. As Marcelo is set to return to Brazil after his world tour for winter he would of been happy with the outcome of the event alot of gold medals being placed around Kaobon Luta Livre fighters.

The event was quieter than previous competitions however, the talent on show was much improved and it was evident in the rolls from flying armbars to a crazy amount of heel hooks which emphasised how well Marcelo teaches his students as Luta Livre is known for its foot locks. Thanks to everybody who competed keep training hard and see you at the next competition.

Luta Livre family expands

Today was another day for Luta Livre to expand its family as Marcelo Brigadeiro hosted another grading at Team Kaobon, before leaving on his tour of the world and returning home to Brazil. Another historic day was made adding to the rise of Luta Livre which has always been in the shadows of Brazilian Ju Jitsu however, it is becoming more and more popular amongst martial artists and Brazilian Ju Jitsu players have a lot more respect for the martial art these days.

The grading consisted of rolls using just technique and then Marcelo talked about the history of Luta Livre and Marcelo's story of how his life has been affected by Luta Livre.

A lot of different ability was graded ranging from white belts all the way to the highest at purple. Grading was scored on ability, attitude and commitment and knowledge.

Marcelo said he was proud of everybody involved and wanted to keep spreading the word of Luta Livre, stating everybody who is graded has a role to play in spreading the word. Well done to everybody who involved keep training hard and showing what Luta Livre is all about.

OMMAC 7 'This is Kaobon'

OMMAC 7 was billed with some top fighters and match ups and it didn't disappoint, Two titles on the line and alot of local fighters competing. OMMAC 7 saw four Kaobon fighters in action, three fights finished within the first round and one during the second. Lightweight Mark Glover fought against 10-15 Martin Begley of Belfast winning via armbar in the second round improving his record to 4-1. Greg Severs won his first Professional fight winning inside the first round way of ground and pound against Swansea independent fighter Craig Allen. Uche Ihiekwe also won impressively improving his record to 2-0 in his professional career with a flying knee in the first Deivydas Rehenbergas. Also impressing was Mark Scanlon improving his record to 7-0 winning within ten seconds with a head kick. Speaking after the show Marcelo said I am very proud of my guy`s performance tonight......We not only won fights, because this any gym can do....we showed everyone what a complete team is......Just a different standard from all the others, this is Kaobon......Well done guys!!

On Sunday Luta Livre went north way north, as Marcelo visited Scotland. The Griphouse in Glasgow was the next gym to get the Luta Livre experience. Learning alot of valuable lessons Griphouse gym can now develop there skills and spread the word of Luta Livre further. Marcelo spoke about how he enjoyed his trip to Glasgow and how enthusiastic the students were to learn more.

On Saturday Marcelo visited Middlesbrough again a place he had recently been demonstrating Luta Livre in his seminar a month or two earlier, yet again it was Team Redemption that enjoyed his knowledge and the art of Luta Livre which everybody seems to be realising is a Martial Art on the rise. Marcelo then travelled to Doncaster on Sunday to show another team what Luta Livre was about with some great submission offence and defence learned, I am sure Team Asylum and Team Redemption will no doubt be wanting to learn more from Marcelo shortly.

OMMAC returned on Saturday as some of Liverpool's local fighters entertained a good crowd. Three Kaobon fighters were in action however, all eyes were on Uche Ihiekwe who was set to feature in his first professional bout and he stepped up to the standard with no problems as he won via armbar in the first minute of the first round defeating Swansea independent fighter Mark Jones. More impressive was the win for Greg Severs (semi pro) who won by Achilles lock also in the first minute of round 1 also against another Swansea independent fighter Jamie Barrett.

The third fighter to feature for Kaobon was Jay Manning who was set to face a guy who had previously beaten two of Manning team mates in Lee Chadwick & Jay Gladden however, as Manning looked to make sure he wasn't another name on Ronan McKays list of Kaobon fighters but it wasnt to be as he was outclassed by a tough guy and all round fighter. Two titles changed hands in what was a very entertaining night as the fight of the night in most peoples opinions must of been the Featherweight class between two talented fighters in Dave Hill (Elements MMA) and Ashleigh Grimshaw (Team Titan).

On Sunday another day for the average guy passed by but for Team Kaobon and Marcelo Brigadeiro it was another day for learning and another day to spread the word of Luta Livre. The seminar consisted of some transitions from a takedown to submission some neck cranks, leg locks and some of Brigs special submissions only those who took part were able to witness. The seminar attracted a few different nationalities ranging from Scottish to Slovakian. Everybody was happy with the seminar and felt they got some valuable experience.

Luta Livre Grappling Competition 2

Hey everybody today another Luta Livre tournament has been announced for the 19th of September at Team Kaobon so get training and maybe you could be the guy everybody is talking about. It will be the same rules and set up as last time with different weight classes and experience levels and the open weight category.

After months of planning Marcelo Brigadeiro's hard work of organising a Luta Livre tournament between 13 gyms in the UK proved to be successful. The tournament which consisted of different weight categories and levels of experience. The tournament also had an open weight category for those who dared to enter it, were a guy who is 120kg could roll with a guy as low as 60kg it really was a shot in the dark who on who you were pitted against.

Ninja shows his ability!

On Saturday Marcelo's student Juliano Ninja, won his first international fight with a Rear Naked Choke(RNC). Training at team Kaobon ahead of the fight he was looking to sharpen his skills in the weeks that led up to the fight! It was in Northampton that Juliano proved his hard work had paid off at the "Shoot N Sprawl" show submitting his opponent in the first round. A very proud coach Marcelo stated that "Ninja fought very well, doing exactly what we had trained for this fight" Ninja improves his record to 5-1 after this victory.

UKMMANEWS interview with Marcelo Brigadeiro!

Since arriving in the UK two years ago, Marcelo Brigadeiro has been on a one-man-mission to spread the word of Luta Livre around the UK and Europe. A Luta Livre Blackbelt under Marcio Cromado and representing Renovação Fight Team (Brazil), Marcelo has been instrumental in establishing Liverpool’s Kaobon gym as one of the top MMA clubs in the UK. He began his training in Luta Livre in 1994 and first competed a year later, he has been teaching the art since 2000.

UKMMMANEWS managed to get an interview with the man himself and his deep passion for the sport is obvious. He is in the middle of a massive seminar tour and everyone that attends these raves about his attention to detail, teaching skill and how some simple adjustments shown by him have improved their grappling game exponentially. Marcelo is spreading what he lovingly refers to as “the Luta Livre virus”. If this virus is half as infectious as his own enthusiasm for the sport, then sooner or later we are all going to catch it! If you’ve ever been caught with a dose of “the jits”, better prepare yourselves for the new epidemic that is sure to arrive at a town or city near you soon!

Growing up in Brazil, why did you choose Luta Livre over BJJ when you began martial arts training?
Because on that time BJJ was practiced only by rich people, so if you did not have the gi from the best brand, you would be bullied by the other kids. And although I never had a bad life (moneywise) I never liked to hang around with rich guys, I didn’t use to like their attitudes….Luta Livre was different, because it was practiced by poor people, so the atmosphere in the gym was different, everyone very humble and trying to help each other…I felt better there…

North East contracts the virus!

Marcelo Brigadeiro visited the north east this past weekend hoping to show people what they are missing out on and he did exactly that. Like in the previous seminar Marcelo taught a variation of takedowns and sweeps also there defenses and escapes, submissions and guard passes. Wrexham was the host of Fight Stars 4. The Luta Livre virus hit as soon as the first Kaobon fighter entered the cage, Uche Ihiekwe, winning in the first round after mounting his opponent he soon rolled onto his back to show off his impressive guard attack finishing with a strong armbar to get the team & Luta Livre off to a great start. Martin Wong showed all his hard work had paid off winning with a north south choke after 00.38 of the first round after a well controlled and powerful takedown he worked his way into a position he knew he had complete control to wrap up the fight. Greg Severs was up next and he wasted little time showing his superior stand up, with some good combinations to settle his opponent down finishing with a guillotine in the first round this being Gregs 6th guillotine in as many fights.

Finally it was up to Mark Scanlon, the highest graded student under Marcelo, to show Kaobons dominance in MMA right now and he never disappointed as he faced a tough challenge from 3-0 Ousmane Sidibe. Straight away Scanlon pushed for submissions as he looked to finish it early with a guillotine however, Sidibe was able to avoid tapping. After a few minutes of scrambling Scanlon went for a kimura and executed a perfect sweep enabling him to transition and finish a head arm choke improving his record to 6-0.

Another day of history was made as Kaobon hosted its 3rd grading on sunday 13th June. With over 50 students attending and looking to learn the history of the ever growing martial art of Luta Livre. Marcelo Brigadeiro judged students ability,attitude,knowledge and commitment. It was a great day for Luta Livre showing how far it had come since Marcelo first came to Kaobon where he had 4 students the main two being being Mark Scanlon now a blue belt 3 stripes & UFC fighter Terry Etim a blue belt. The standard of Luta Livre in team Kaobon is ever growing and it is Marcelo Brigadeiro's aim to make Luta Livre a global & appealing martial art for people to learn so if your considering it give it a try or for the rest of the team keep training hard and earning your stripes.

OMMAC 5 was a show stacked with great match ups with experienced fighter Paul Cahoon looking to extend his winning streak to three wins after a win against Earl Brown in his last fight. Cahoon was supposed to fight welsh star John Phillips for the british middleweight title however, Phillips withdrew as he was struggling to make weight so Lithuanian Andrius Juska took his place. Cahoon won the fight seconds into the first round with a heel hook after evading punches from Juska and landing some of his own improving his record to 13-12. Kaobon had 3 fighters expecting to feature but due to his opponent not turning up Uche Ihiekwe was left to watch his training partners in action instead.Pietro Menga was fighting argueably the toughest test of his semi pro bouts as he fought Gareth Pilot despite doing well early on Menga made a error that cost him during the second round giving up his back allowing Pilot to take the win. Richie Downes outpointed Marley Swindells in a lightweight clash Downes impressing all through the fight with some impressive stand up.

Team Kaobon will be hosting a grading in Luta Livre on Sunday 13th June at 1pm coach Marcelo Brigadiero a black belt under Marcio Cromado will be looking at your ability, commitment, knowledge, respect and discipline he will also be giving a brief history of Luta Livre. The fee for the grading will be £10 this pays for your belt a certificate & your registration to the Brazilian Luta Livre Association. Whether you are new to Luta Livre or a experienced grappler recieving a belt is always a great achievement and gives you something to aim for in the future it is a good way of knowing how much you have excelled in the months between grades so maybe one day you could become a black belt & grade yourself who knows!

3 was the magic number in Wolverhampton as team Kaobon took away 3 wins with 3 different submissions. Tom Aspinall winning in the first round with an impressive D'arce choke (Brabo)against Alan Harper. A choke Terry Etim won submission of the year in the UFC with has now become a popular submission to learn it requires good technique,speed and control to execute it correctly. Bantamweight Martin Wong was another Kaobon fighter proving Luta Livre is becoming even more dominant in MMA winning with an armbar also in the first against Lee Cook. The Ommac 4 was a highly anticipated event with lots of promising fights and Paul Sass vs Jason Young headlining the show it was sure to be a great night. Kaobon fighters were seen with their arms raised on several occasions, with no more than 6 out of 7 victories three via some great submissions. One to be remembered was the heel hook from Paul Sass which earned himself his tenth straight proffesional win. Up and coming Kaobon fighter Louis Jenkins was impressive with a first round TKO in just under a minute, followed by a decision victory for Pietro Menga against Brent Crawley.

Yesterday was another great day in Luta Livre´s history when the state of Santa Catarina, in the south of Brazil, had its first grading ceremony. Marcelo Brigadeiro graded 15 of his students in the beautiful city of Balneário Camboriú. It was possible to feel how proud all the guys were to know that they´re now the first Luta Livre team in the south of Brazil. Brigadeiro said to his students in the ceremony: "The Luta Livre family is getting bigger, make sure you all represent it with the same love and respect that i do, make sure you fell the same pride that i fell and make sure you defend it with the same effort that i do."

Holidays in Brazil......well, not so much....

The day after Terry´s fight in the UFC 105, i took a plane to Brazil for a well deserved rest after a great year for Team Kaobon and Luta Livre. All i was thinking of was a great time with my family and friends and nice beaches and great food of my country. Everything was planned but in the same day i got in Brazil my master, Cromado, called me asking for my help to make Luciano Azevedo and Leonardo Chocolate for their fights that would happen at the WFE 5 in Salvador. We had 10 days of training and adjustments and then we went to Salvador. The show was great, and we won both fights by submission. Luciano defeated Jean Silva by triangle in the first round. Also in the first round Chocolate defeated Rubens Charles by Anaconda choke. Me and Cromado were in the corner, more than happy and proud of the guys.
We went back to Rio de Janeiro the day after the fights so i could enjoy my hollidays, and i did....for 2 days. My student Franklin Jensen, who had won the "Nitrix Fight" superfight at the same day Terry won the UFC 105, called me saying that 2 of our boys from RFT- Santa Catarina would fight at the 30th of December. Well, the next day i took a plane to Balneário Camboriú, Santa Catarina. As soon as i got there i went home for 2 hours, left my luggage and went to the gym to take care of my students. We´ve trained for 30 straight days, no Christmas for us. The result was 2 victories at the "Warriors Challenge 4". Rafael Silva punished John Lineker for 3 rounds to win by unanimous decision while Juliano Ninja needed only 1 minute to finish his fight by submission (RNC). Once again i was very happy and proud and once more looking foward to rest. I had 2 days off and then i had came the news that i will have 3 students fighting at the "Nitrix Show Fight" on the 6th of February......Well, maybe i can rest next year...

Carl Noon was the first to step in the cage and after only 22 seconds of fight the Luta Livre fighter defended a takedown and used his powerfull ground and pound to finish the fight and earn the Midlleweight belt. Mick Sinclair showed everyone the much he has been improving from fight to fight and after a great first round, Mick finished the fight with a guillotine choke in the second round. Team Kaobon had 3 fighters in action last weekend. Mick Sinclair and Carl Noon fought at the "Burnley Brawl 2" while Uche Ihiekwe fought at the "Wrexham Fight Night". Carl won his fight in less than 30 seconds after defending a takedown and use his strong ground and pound to win by TKO and be the new middleweight champion of the "Burnley Brawl". Mick Sinclair fought in the featherweight division and scored a victory in the second round duo to a guillotine choke.
Uche won his fight by unanimoous decision after controling the actions while standing up and also when the fight was in the floor.

Then, Uche Ihiekwe also used a triangle choke to submit, winning on 83 seconds. Fast as a bullet, Lee Chadwick won in only 17 seconds, with a rear naked choke.

Finishing the job, Richie Downes and Carl Noon also submitted on the first round. Now the next commitments are Burnley Brawn 2, on November 7, where the team will be represented by four athletes. In front of one of the new MMA revelations, Daniel Acácio used the experience to get the victory against the tough Pedro Iriê, in one of the best fights of First Class Fight 3, that happened last Friday at Pacha club, in São Paulo. “It was one of the best experiences that I had, taking to the ground, trying to submit or the knock out... That was the Daniel Acácio that people wanted back. I had a bad phase, but I found the victory and my origins again”, celebrates.

When he moved to CM System, team leaded by Cristiano Marcello, the fighter promised to put the team on top. “The whole team is doing a great job, people is working and coming hard, looking for the victory to put CM System on top. It’s already on top, between three or four bigger teams of Brazil”, guarantees Acácio, reveling that he’ll fight overseas in October. “I’ll fight on Sweden at 200lbs, and you can be sure that I’ll be strong, I won’t be fat (laugh)”.

The first one happened in the Shooto Brazil 13 (August 29th) when the defeated Zeilton Nenzao by unanimous decision. Luta Livre and Kaobon conquer another belt.

The Luta Livre fighter Martin "Stapes" Stapleton conquered another belt. Representing Team Kaobon, "Stapes" defeated the Wolfslair fighter Ashley Smith to get the "Clash of Warriors" lightweight belt.
Both fighters started the round with a number of kicks to the head. Martin followed this with a number of good punches to the head, but Ashley was quick to respond in kind, with the two of them appearing to be very evenly matched. Martin is attacking more than Ashley, but not all of his blows are connecting. Martin manages to get Ashley pinned against the side of the cage but Ashley is quick to escape. After exchanging a few punches and kicks in the middle of the cage, Martin gets a number of good blows in and follows this by once again getting Ashley pinned up against the cage for the last few seconds of the round. Round 2 begins and Martin wastes no time getting a good punch in. Ashley responds with a kick to the head. The two of them still seem pretty evenly matched, although Martin seems to be dictating the fight. Following a grapple, Ashley is spun into the side of the cage for a second but quite literally bounces back. So far in this round, Ashley seems unable to do any real attacking – although he keeps trying, none of his efforts are really making a difference. Round 3 is more of the same. Martin continues to dominate the fight and, despite numerous attempts, Ashley cannot make any headway. At the end of round 3, Martin is declared the winner by the judges’ unanimous decision and takes home the Clash of Warriors Lightweight British title belt. Congratulations "Stapes"!!!

The UFC fighter Paul "Semtex" Daley and the TUF member Dean Amasinger have been at Team Kaobon this week to learn Luta Livre. They had some privates with Brigadeiro and been in the Luta Livre classes rolling with Brigadeiro, Terry Etim, Mark Scanlon, Stapes and others. The Luta Livre training was part of their preparation to the next fights. Daley faces Brian Foster in the UFC 103 (September 19th) while Amasinger fights Jansen at the Ultimate Challenge (October 24th). "Thanks to Marcelo, Colin and the team, definatly will be making more trips up to the Kaobon gym." said Daley. "I also want to say thanks to Brigadeiro and Colin for their help and Hospitality. Also to the other lads at the gym like Terry and Scanno, you were a big help and I'll be back up again before my next fight to train." completed Amasinger.

Luta Livre had a great night last saturday (August 8th) when was represented by 4 fighters from Team Kaobon at the Olympian MMA Championship. The first to get in the cage was Pietro Menga. Menga started very agressive, using low and high kicks. After going to the ground Menga managed to get a perfect armbar scoring the first Luta Livre victory at 1:25 of the first round. The second to fight was Uche Ihiekwe. Uche used a great combination of knees forcing Keith Fowles to give up at 3:10 of the first round. Greg Severs was the third Luta Livre fighter in the cage, and after just 1:07 of the first round, Greg scored another victory by submission via guilotine. The last one to represent Luta Livre was Lee Chadwick. Facing the dangerous Shaun Lomas , Lee needed only 0:23 to knock Shaun down with a left hook and submit him with a rear naked choke. Kaobon showed why is being named as one of the best teams in Europe.

Today was an historical day when the first ever Luta Livre tournament happened in the UK at Team Kaobon (Liverpool). Fighters from Team Kaobon, Golden Glory, SUFFA, Bolton Catch Wrestling and SKK Club just showed why Luta Livre is getting so popular in England. They performed great fights and impressed everyone with the technical level of the competition. Greg Severs with 7 victories by submission, Rob Sinclair that defeated Lee Chadwick in an awesome match, Mick Sinclair that won his two fights by guilhotine and Simon Ridgway that at only 14 years old went toe to toe with the big guys made the tournament even more exciting. A Luta Livre Blue Belt, Terry showed the world how much his ground game has improved yesterday when he scored another win to his record and also got the "Submission of the Night" prize.
UFC official website wrote: "Terry Etim continued to show new facets of his game, rising from a first round knockdown to roar back in the second and submit Justin Buchholz in a clash of lightweight prospects.Buchholz attempted to close the gap on Etim immediately behind some hard kicks to the head and body. Etim took his time, but when he struck, he struck hard, immediately reddening Buchholz’ face. The American was game though, and he kept pushing the pace, eventually dropping Etim with a hard right hand. Buchholz immediately pounced, and though Etim tried for a quick submission, Buchholz wasn’t having it, and he kept firing away, with referee Leon Roberts watching the action closely. But Etim was just as resilient, and eventually he fought his way free and began working on his opponent’s leg. Buchholz soon got up and marked another momentum shift with some hard strikes just before the bell sounded.Etim got back to his measured gameplan in round two, landing with some hard leg kicks that got Buchholz’ attention. And by the stanza’s second minute, Etim was starting to close in with knees and kicks to the head before the fight went to the mat at the midway point. It was there that Etim lowered the boom with a D’arce choke that produced the tap out at 2:38 of the round."

Luta Livre scored 2 wins last night at Cage Gladiators XII. Richie Downes and Jay Manning impressed the crowd fighting "the perfect fight". Very confident in their ground game, both needed less then 20 seconds to take the fight to the ground. After some vicious ground and pound, Richie (Luta Livre Orange Belt) finished the fight with a rear nacked choke while Jay (Luta Livre Yellow Belt) used a kimura. Both won still in the first round. That showed why Team Kaobon is on of the most dangerous mma teams in Europe, putting together an outstanding Thai Boxing game and a very solid ground work provided by Luta Livre.

Rob Broughton, a Luta Livre Blue Belt under Marcelo Brigadeiro, saved the day this morning when Team England faced Team France in the M1 Challenge. Team France scored 4-0 in the first four fights (Lightweight, Welterweight, Middleweight and Light Heavyweight) and it looked like it would be a scary 5-0. But Rob Broughton decided to save the day and after 2:02 of the first round, he scored a win by TKO, after a strong combination of strikes.

Rob, a Luta Livre' Blue Belt under Marcelo Brigadeiro got a unanimous decision victory over the japanese Yusuke Kawaguchi, who is considered the best heavyweight of Japan and had a record of 8-0 before this fight. Gladiator School IV had 3 fighters from Team Kaobon and they performed very well. John Hughes, Gregg Severs and Darren Spencer have shown why Team Kaobon is one of the best MMA teams in Europe. John Hughes has shown everybody that he has been learning Luta Livre's techniques after win his fight via rear naked choke at 20 seconds of the first round. Showing a solid Luta Livre game Gregg Severs just needed 45 seconds of fight to win via guillotine choke after a combination of punches and knees. Darren Spencer tried a footlock, a knee bar, a choke and finally won his fight with an arm bar at 2 minutes of the first round.

The show takes place June 13 at the Lanxess Arena in Cologne, Germany. It'll be the country's first-ever UFC event. Etim, who recently signed a new contract with the UFC, returns to competition looking for his third straight UFC win. The British fighter most recently defeated Brian Cobb, a late replacement for Buchholz, via second-round TKO at UFC 95. Carlos Alberto "Betão", representing Luta Livre, walked into the ring last saturday (March 28th) at the most important MMA show in Brazil, the Shooto Brazil. "Betão" entertained the fans with a very active fight. In a very evenly-matched fight, "Betão" (RFT Team), who recently fought for the Shooto 60kg title, ended up earning a victory by unanimous decision. He managed good takedowns on Rodolpho Marques (Nova União) and a knockdown in the second round, after throwing a superman punch. Today at Kaobon Liverpool, we made a little bit of history for the UK Martial Arts scene.The roots and lineage of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in the UK are well documented - who trained who, which guys came over first, who got what belts first etc... Today, Marcelo Brigadeiro began the lineage of future UK black belts by awarding the first ever Luta Livre gradings in the UK.Luta Livre - Portuguese for 'free fight' is a kind of no-gi submission wrestling with a lot of similarities to catch wrestling which was made famous in the 1940's when 'Tatu' fought and defeated Helio's brother George Gracie in a Vale Tudo match. Other famous clashes between Luta Livre and BJJ include Euclides Perreira v Carlson Gracie, Tadeu v Renzo Gracie, and Hugo Duarte v Rickson.The blood feud between Luta Livre and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu essentially ended with the popularity of modern Mixed Martial Arts and the likes of ADCC grappling tournaments, with most of the top BJJ schools taking in the top LL guys to round out their games. Renato 'Babalu' Sobral at Gracie Barra, Gesias 'JZ' Calvancante at ATT, and our own Marcelo Brigadeiro at Team Alliance are all Luta Livre guys training with Brazilian Jiu Jitsu teams.Marcelo Brigadeiro - a black belt under Marcio Cromado of Renovação Fight Team in Rio de Janeiro - has been here in the UK spreading the Luta Livre word for around 6 months now, teaching at least 7 classes a week at Kaobon, as well as some classes at Golden Glory in St Helens.Today he awarded the first UK grades (which are slightly different to BJJ) in Luta Livre, giving out white, yellow, orange, and blue grades. What a fight!!! That's what people were saying yesterday at O2 Arena after Terry Etim's victory over Brian Cobb on UFC 95. Liverpool lightweight Terry Etim put together his most impressive UFC performance to date as he used a ferocious Muay Thai attack to halt Brian Cobb in the second round.Etim’s striking and takedown defense were sharp in the early going, with only a caught kick by Cobb (15-5) leading to a trip to the mat. While on the ground, Etim (12-2) tried to keep Cobb locked up in order to force a stand-up from referee Kevin Mulhall, and the strategy worked as he and Cobb got re-started. While on the feet, Etim upped his workrate, tagging Cobb with hard kicks upstairs and downstairs. Cobb weathered the storm and got a much-needed takedown, but again, Terry showed he's been working on his ground skills controlling the fight on the ground, and the two were stood up with a little over a minute to go. Etim resumed his kick-based attack, and even scored a takedown of his own as the round neared its end.Etim came out fast in the second, and after attacking Cobb’s leg again, he switched things up and shot off a lead left kick to the head. Cobb dropped immediately, and a big right hand on the mat finished things off, with Mulhall calling the bout off 10 seconds into the second round. Terry Etim is ready to fight on February 21st at UFC 95. He will face Brian Cobb (15-4). After a great win over Sam Stout on UFC 89, when he used combinations of precise kicks with fast hands and a spiteful jab to control the canadian for 3 rounds, Terry now wants another victory. In pursuit of perfection, Etim has undergone a continuous period of preparation and training since his win over Stout. Not content with just winning, Etim is determined to win, look great doing it and, ultimately, thrill his biggest critic – himself. There’s one way to achieve all three – good, old-fashioned hard work. To bring his ground game to the highest level Terry has been training Luta Livre for a few months under supervision of his Luta Livre's coach Marcelo Brigadeiro. He has also been training hard on his already impressive Thai Boxing skills with his coach Colin Heron. Such a hard work at Team Kaobon makes him very confident of victory on February 21st. “It’s a good fight for me” admits Etim. “I think I’ll be fine wherever it goes. I’m confident should it stay standing and I’m confident going to the ground with him. He’s (Cobb) a very strong fighter, but I’m confident I’ll have the advantages in most areas." It’s scary to think that Etim, still merely 23, is only just embarking on his run up the mixed martial arts mountain. GLADIATOR SCHOOL - RESULTS.

Due to some injuries and also some problems matching up the fights, Gladiator School III had only 3 fighters from Team Kaobon. Tom Baxter, Mick "The Atom" and Gregg Severs have shown why Team Kaobon is one of the best MMA teams in Europe. After 3 rounds of a very technical fight, Tom Baxter got a drawn after showing a great performance in the ground. Mick "The Atom" has shown everybody that he has been learning Luta Livre's techniques after win his fight via ankle lock at 56 seconds of the first round. Even faster was Gregg Severs. Looking like a veteran Gregg just needed 33 seconds of fight to win via guillotine choke after a combination of punches and knees. Congratulations guys!

Julian "Jabba" Soares, Mark Scanlon, Tom Baxter, Greg Severs, Dave Newbrook and Mick "The Atom" are the fighters who will represent Luta Livre on Gladiator School, next sunday. All of them represent team Kaobon and have been training very hard with their coaches Marcelo Brigadeiro (Luta Livre) and Colin Heron (Thai Boxing). Cyrillo Padilha, a Luta Livre's Black Belt under Marcio Cromado, is doing a great job representing the RFT Team and the Luta Livre style in the USA. Cyrillo is the Luta Livre's instructor in the Bushido Gym (San Francisco, California) and his classes are a huge success. Hermes Franca and Urijah Faber are some of the professional fighters that like to train with Cyrillo to improve their ground game with the Luta Livre's skills learned from him. is coming to UK next week. The brazilian is member of the RFT Team (Brazil) and due to the partnership between RFT Team and Team Kaobon, "Jaba" will stay 2 months training Luta Livre with the Luta Livre's Black Belt Marcelo Brigadeiro and Thai Boxing with Colin Heron at Kaobon's Gym. "Jaba" will fight twice in UK, on Gladiator School (February 8th) and on Cage Gladiators (March 8th), he will also help to prepare the UFC fighter Terry Etim to his next fight on UFC 95 (February 21st) and Mark Scanlon, Richie Downes, Lee Chadwick and Kev "Damage" Axewrthy to their fights on the next Cage Gladiators.
